Saudi Arabia’s heritage-rich Diriyah Square development has awarded a $600 million construction contract to Italian firm Webuild, signaling a major milestone in the Kingdom’s giga-project rollout under Vision 2030.
The contract, granted to Webuild’s local subsidiary Salini Saudi Arabia, involves the construction of 70 buildings and public spaces within the Diriyah Square district. This latest package brings Webuild’s total involvement in the project, known as the “City of Earth”, to approximately $2 billion, the company said in a statement.
Diriyah Square sits at the heart of the larger Diriyah master plan, one of five giga-projects backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). The goal: to transform the historic birthplace of the Saudi state into a thriving commercial, cultural, and residential hub.
According to Diriyah Co., the district will feature a pedestrian-friendly design inspired by traditional Najdi architecture, covering 365,000 square meters. The contract includes final works and full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Webuild is also constructing the district’s 10,500-space underground parking facility, currently 55% complete.
Diriyah is expected to contribute around SAR 70 billion ($18.6 billion) to Saudi Arabia’s GDP, create nearly 180,000 jobs, and house around 100,000 residents. The retail component alone aims to host over 400 brands across luxury, leisure, and dining segments.
