Saudi Arabia’s transportation sector is emerging as a central pillar of Vision 2030, opening significant opportunities for private and international investors. Experts highlight that ongoing reforms and infrastructure expansion are positioning the Kingdom as a global logistics and mobility hub.

At the third PIF Private Sector Forum in Riyadh earlier this year, Transport Minister Saleh Al-Jasser confirmed that private entities are expected to account for 80 percent of investments in transport and logistics, with projects worth SR240 billion ($63.95 billion) to be offered through privatization and partnership models.

Joseph Salem, partner at Arthur D. Little, noted that ports, airports, and cargo terminals are being prioritized for public-private partnerships, driving efficiency and capital inflows. He pointed to megaprojects such as the Riyadh Metro and Neom’s mobility network as examples of private sector opportunities in construction, engineering, and technology integration.

Saudi Arabia’s logistics infrastructure is expanding at pace, with the number of logistics facilities increasing 267 percent since 2021, according to the General Authority for Statistics. The Kingdom is also scaling its rail network from 3,650 km to 8,000 km, expanding air cargo capacity to 4.5 million tonnes, and adding 40 logistics centers across 100 million sq. meters by 2030.

Technology is playing a growing role, from AI-driven freight systems to electric vehicle adoption, with Riyadh aiming for 30 percent EV penetration by 2030. Meanwhile, smart city projects like Neom are embedding digital infrastructure into transport planning, enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

For businesses eyeing Saudi Arabia’s transport revolution, the opportunities stretch from high-speed rail and airport expansions to digital logistics platforms and electric mobility. Navigating this scale of transformation requires the right local insight and strategic positioning.
