Made in Italy in the Gulf: High-Potential Sectors in Luxury, Agri-Food, and Design

Made in Italy continues to win over international markets, and the Gulf stands out as one of the most strategic regions for the future of Italian exports. Growing demand for quality and lifestyle among GCC consumers is creating real opportunities for Italian businesses, especially in three key sectors: luxury, agri-food, and design.

According to the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), trade between Italy and Gulf countries surpassed €14 billion in 2023, with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as the main partners. The luxury sector shows strong spending appetite on fashion, accessories, and yachting. A young, increasingly digital consumer base is looking for exclusive and iconic products — and Italian craftsmanship retains a rare competitive edge in this space.

In the agri-food sector, Italy remains a benchmark for excellence. Italian wines, pasta, and olive oil are increasingly featured in retail chains and gourmet concept stores across the region. In 2024, Italian agri-food exports to the UAE rose by 13.5%, driven by promotional initiatives such as the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World and the premium positioning of Italian gastronomy in fine dining.

Design is another strategic area for local demand. Architecture, furniture, and hospitality solutions are in structural demand, fueled by Saudi Arabia’s megaprojects — including NEOM, Qiddiya, and Red Sea Global — as well as continuous investment in luxury real estate. Italian brands are highly valued for their ability to blend aesthetics, innovation, and functionality, particularly in high-end and contract settings.

The Middle East is no longer just a wealthy market — it is a fast-evolving ecosystem where product culture, quality, and heritage make all the difference. For Italian companies, now is the time to act with vision and targeted strategies to seize the wave of transformation reshaping the entire Gulf region.
