When we think of Italian exports to the Gulf, our minds often drift to luxury goods, fashion, and food. While these sectors are indeed pillars of the “Made in Italy” brand, official data from the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) reveals a different, more strategic reality: the core of trade between Italy and Saudi Arabia is overwhelmingly industrial.
The numbers reveal a trade relationship that is accelerating rapidly. In 2024, Italian exports to the Kingdom reached a record 30.2 billion SAR, marking an exceptional 37.2% growth compared to the 22 billion recorded in 2023. This momentum positions Italy as the seventh-largest global supplier to the Saudi market, yet it is the composition of these exports that truly dispels the stereotypes.
The driving force behind our commercial presence is not luxury, but industrial know-how—a fact unequivocally confirmed by the 2024 data. Topping the export rankings are industrial machinery and equipment, boasting an impressive value of nearly €2.9 billion. Other B2B pillars follow at a distance, such as chemical products (approx. €1.25 billion) and processed metals (€587 million). Tellingly, the first consumer goods category—agri-food products—appears only in fourth place with €370 million, followed by transport vehicles at €368 million. This paints a picture of a trade relationship that is increasingly strategic and technology-focused.
These figures are no accident; they reflect a profound synergy between Italy’s industrial capabilities and the demand generated by Vision 2030. Saudi Arabia is not merely a destination for our consumer goods, but a strategic partner seeking technology and machinery for its massive economic diversification projects. Understanding this reality is the first step toward seizing the true opportunities in a market undergoing total transformation.
